Taking part in research was a tremendous help in the first year of my Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis.

“During this very confusing and sometimes overwhelming time, the research staff were incredibly supportive and helped me understand the diseases a lot better. They shared their vast knowledge and experience with me and helped me navigate the NHS with all its peculiarities”. PARTICIPANT LONDON QMUL/Barts Health NHS Trust

MY DIABETES CONTROL IS NOW GREAT AND I DON’T THINK THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE REGULAR FOLLOW-UP VISITS IN THE FRAME OF THE VER-A-T1D TRIAL

“My diabetes control is great and I don’t think that would have been possible without the regular research appointments that I could use to ask questions and troubleshoot confusing blood sugars. Taking part in the study has been easy-going as it fits around my lifestyle. I’ve also found it very helpful to have access to a team of healthcare professionals who have made me feel more comfortable and accepting of my diabetes so early on in my diagnosis”.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WAS NEWLY DIAGNOSED TYPE 1 DIABETES AND CONSIDERING TAKING PART IN RESEARCH?

“I would highly recommend that people with newly diagnosed Type 1 Diabetes take part in research if presented, with the opportunity as every study takes us one step closer towards treatments and cures for this lifelong condition”.
